E-Catering Delivery Rules: Tracking Domino's/KFC and resolving missed deliveries on late

IRCTC e-Catering lets you order food directly to your seat via the Food on Track app, the IRCTC e-Catering website, or by calling 1323.

Key Rules for Ordering (Domino's, KFC & Brand Outlets)

Ticket Eligibility: Requires a Confirmed or RAC ticket. Waitlisted e-tickets cannot receive deliveries since they are automatically cancelled upon chart preparation.

Cutoff Timings: Orders for Domino’s and KFC must generally be placed 1 to 2 hours before the train’s scheduled arrival at the target station.

Delivery Window: Most major brand outlets service stations between 6:00 AM and 10:00 PM.

Verification: The delivery executive will ask for your seat confirmation and the Delivery Code (OTP) sent to your registered mobile number upon arrival.

Tracking Your Order (Domino's / KFC)

  • Via IRCTC Food on Track App: Navigate to My Orders $\rightarrow$ select your active order to view live status updates (e.g., Confirmed, In Preparation, Dispatched).
  • Direct Outlet Tracking: Brands like Domino’s push order updates directly via SMS once the food leaves the station's partner kitchen.
  • Delivery Executive Contact: The delivery agent's phone number is usually assigned and shared via SMS/app 15–30 minutes before the train reaches the platform.

Resolving Late Trains & Missed Deliveries

Scenario

What Happens

Action / Resolution

Train Delayed (Under 2 Hours)

Kitchen tracks the train status automatically and aligns preparation with the updated ETA.

No action required; the delivery agent will meet the train at its revised arrival time.

Train Delayed Significantly / Diverted

Vendor is unable to fulfill the order at the revised time or station.

The system automatically cancels the order. Prepaid orders trigger an automatic full refund.

Train Stopped Brief Stop / Left Early

Train stopped for less than the scheduled time and left before the delivery agent could reach your coach.

Contact 1323 immediately. Log the issue as a "Missed Delivery due to Train Movement." Full refund is granted.

Passenger Unavailable / Wrong Seat

Delivery agent arrived, but you were not at your berth or unreachable by phone.

Marked as "No-Show". No refund is provided for prepaid or COD orders.

How to File a Grievance for Non-Delivery or Payment Issues

  • Call Customer Helpline: Dial 1323 (IRCTC e-Catering direct support) or 139 (Railway Helpline) to report an undelivered order.
  • Use RailMadad: Submit a ticket on the RailMadad portal (railmadad.indianrailways.gov.in) or app. Select Catering $\$rightarrow e-Catering Issue, enter your 10-digit PNR, and mention your Order ID.
  • Refund Timeline: Approved refunds for prepaid orders (Cards/UPI/NetBanking) process automatically back to the original payment source within 3 to 7 working days.

Do only KFC and Domino's deliver food directly to a train coach, or do other food delivery services do this as well?

No, Domino’s and KFC are not the only options. You can order from dozens of major national food chains, local top-rated restaurants, and dedicated railway food aggregators.

All authorized deliveries are routed to your seat via the IRCTC e-Catering framework (either using IRCTC's official Food on Track app or their approved aggregator partners).

1. Major National Brand Chains

Apart from Domino’s and KFC, IRCTC has direct partnerships with several large restaurant and fast-food chains:

  • Fast Food & Snacks: Subway, McDonald's, Pizza Hut, Burger King, Haldiram's, Bikanervala, Dunkin' Donuts.
  • Biryani & Indian Regional: Behrouz Biryani, Faasos, Biryani Blues, Saravana Bhavan, Nirula's, Motimahal.

2. IRCTC-Authorized Aggregators

If you don't want fast food, several specialized e-catering partners operate as aggregators (similar to how Swiggy/Zomato work, but tailored specifically for train schedules and seat delivery):

  • RailRestro
  • RailRecipe
  • Zoop
  • Gofoodieonline
  • Comesum
  • RelFood

These aggregators connect with thousands of local FSSAI-certified restaurants near major railway stations to deliver fresh Veg/Non-Veg Thalis, South Indian breakfasts, Jain meals, and local regional specialties directly to your berth.

3. Do Regular Apps (Swiggy / Zomato) Deliver to Seats?

  • Standard Swiggy / Zomato apps do not deliver to your berth. Delivery agents on these platforms generally cannot enter railway platforms without train tickets or platform passes.
  • Exception: Swiggy and Zomato have tested/launched specific IRCTC e-catering tie-ups at select major stations, but these orders must be booked through the IRCTC e-catering system / portal, not standard consumer food delivery apps.

Summary of How to Order Any Brand

Step

Method

1. Enter PNR

Open IRCTC Food on Track (or authorized apps like RailRestro/Zoop) and enter your 10-digit PNR.

2. Select Station

Choose the station along your route where you want the food delivered.

3. Browse Outlets

The app displays all available options at that station—from Domino's & KFC to local Thali restaurants and regional chains.

4. Seat Handoff

Any restaurant you pick follows the exact same tracking, OTP, and seat-delivery rules as Domino's or KFC.

Beyond standard tracking and basic non-delivery refunds, several technical rules govern e-catering delivery for brands like Domino's and KFC.

1. Order Limits & Out-of-Stock Cutoffs

  • Station Halt Limits: Delivery is generally restricted to stations where the train's scheduled stoppage is at least 5 minutes. Delivery agents will not accept orders for 2-minute halts due to safety and delay risks.
  • Minimum Order Value: Major brands often enforce a minimum cart value (usually ₹99–₹150) for seat delivery.
  • Manual Order Cancellation Cutoff: You can voluntarily cancel an order up to 60 to 120 minutes prior to the train's real-time expected arrival at that station. Once the kitchen starts preparing the order within that cutoff window, manual cancellation is locked.

2. Domino's & KFC Technical Edge Cases

  • Customization Restrictions: Items prone to melting or quick spoilage (like soft-serve ice cream or specific beverages) are excluded from train delivery menus.
  • Store-Level Stock Issues: If a station's Domino's or KFC outlet runs out of stock or faces an unexpected kitchen outage, the order is cancelled automatically, and a system SMS is sent to your registered mobile number prompting you to re-order at a downstream station.

3. Specific Delays & Refund Rules

  • Late-Night Delays Past Operational Hours: If your train is delayed and its updated arrival time shifts into the 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM window, most brand kitchens will close. The system will auto-cancel the order and initiate a full refund.
  • Unscheduled Platform Changes: If the train is unexpectedly redirected to a different platform upon arrival, delivery agents coordinate directly via the phone number tied to your PNR. If they miss the train due to a last-minute platform swap, IRCTC treats this as a service failure and grants a 100% refund.
  • Quality & Partial Delivery Complaints: If the seal is broken, food is cold/spoiled, or items (like drinks/sides) are missing, take a photo immediately. Log the complaint under RailMadad or call 1323 while still on the train. IRCTC will process a partial or full refund based on the issue.

4. Proof Required for Disputed Claims

If an order is marked "Delivered" in the app but you did not receive it, open a dispute immediately. IRCTC verifies the OTP shared via SMS; if the delivery agent did not collect your OTP or verify your berth visually, the dispute resolves in your favor automatically.

5. Claim Deadlines & Refund Rules

  • The 5-Day Claim Limit: If a delivery fails and the system does not auto-cancel it, you must file a complaint via 1323 or the e-Catering app within 5 days of the delivery date. Beyond 5 days, IRCTC marks the order as successfully delivered, and refund claims are forfeited.
  • Disruptions (Floods, Bandhs, Agitations): If your train is cancelled due to external railway disruptions (such as floods or blockades), auto-refunds do not always trigger. You must manually log into the portal and cancel the order within 72 hours of the scheduled delivery time to claim a 100% refund.

6. Domino's & KFC Outlet Constraints

  • Brand Delivery Hours: While general e-catering operates from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM, major franchise partners like Domino's operate on specific kitchen windows (typically 12:00 PM to 11:00 PM) depending on local store hours.
  • Short Stoppages: Domino's and KFC generally filter out stations with halts under 5 minutes. If a train's schedule is altered by Railways and the halt duration at a target station is temporarily reduced, the outlet reserves the right to cancel the order.

7. Verification & Passenger Deadlines

  • Mandatory Physical Bill: The delivery executive is contractually obligated to hand over a printed bill along with the sealed package. Never accept an unsealed package or an order without a invoice, as this voids claim rights if items are missing.
  • Co-Passenger Pickup: If you leave your berth (e.g., using the restroom), a co-passenger can accept the delivery on your behalf only if they have your delivery OTP. If no one on your berth has the OTP, the rider cannot hand over the food.
